A psychoanalyst is a psychotherapist who has extra extensive training in treating many mental health disorders. Training to become a psychoanalyst takes years of in-depth study of the human mind. Psychoanalysts look at life patterns and help you to try to understand the underlying reasons that cause them to repeat in your life. By helping you to explore your past, present and future life, they help you to grow to become and accept your authentic self.

Typically, I meet with patients once a week for 50 minute sessions. If it is determined that there is a need for more sessions, arrangements can be made.

Aside from a few brief basic questions, I’m interested in hearing about the reason you decided to come for therapy and whatever else you’d like to tell me about yourself. My job is to get to understand you. Each of us has their own way of communicating our feelings. It is through talk that I will begin get to understand your needs and desires.

Therapy is a process that takes place over an extended period of time. There is no specific length of time that is for everyone. What’s important is that you consistently come weekly and talk.

Talk therapy has been shown to facilitate neurochemical and neural network changes in the brain. Working with a trained psychotherapist in a safe and nurturing environment can create new neural pathways that will allow you to experience the world in a healthier and more mature way.
